Short History on Voskopoja where Gren Agenda is implementing

Voskopoja (Moskopulos) village is the center of Voskopoja. It is located on the west of Korca City, 18 km away from it, situated on a beautiful plain about 1200 m above the sea level.

You would be highly impressed by its majestic temples, and naturally would become aware that you are living through the history of the Albanian art and culture.

Voskopoja is carrying on itself numerous cultural strata, civilizations and ethnic groups. It has been the cultural hearth throughout Balkan.

During its blooming period in the 17-th century, Voskopoja must have had about 20.000 – 30.000 inhabitants. In 1730 the first printing establishment was set up. In 1741 the school “New Academy” was founded and recorded in the city codex. It is worth mentioning the rich library of the city. The numerous basilicas of the 22 churches were the precious treasures of Voskopoja.

The 18- the century marks the flourishing and the falling of Voskopoja city as an economic center with temples and educational institutions very rare for the time.

The economical, social, educational and cultural traditions of Voskopoja as well as its beautiful nature make it a genuine (real) historic center. It maintains a cultural and natural heritage with special values, not only in Albania but even abroad.
